FAQS

Do you take insurance, and how does that work?

The Therapy Ranch is not a in-network provider. All sessions are out-of-pocket however if you wish to seek reimbursement form your insurance we can provide you with a superbill. The superbill is a detailed invoice that states date of session, diagnosis, amount paid, counselor's name and your name. This does not guarantee your insurance will provide reimbursement. I highly encouraged you to check with your insurance provider what types of therapy is covered (equine-assisted psychotherapy, in-person counseling, telehealth) prior to scheduling your session.

Some helpful questions you can ask them:

  • What are my mental health benefits?

  • How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?

  • Are there any limitations to what is covered for out-of-network provider?

Confidentiality is major component for the client/counselor relationship.  Trust is highly important to ensure a successful partnership with the counselor and client. At the Therapy ranch we provide a copy of your confidential disclosure agreement, and you can expect that what you discuss in session will not be shared with anyone. This is called “Informed Consent”.

Sometimes, however, you may want your counselor to share information or give an update to an assigned party such as (your Doctor, Attorney, Schools), but by law your counselor cannot release this information without obtaining your written permission.

It is important to note that state law and professional ethics require counselors to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations:

* Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders requires counselors to report to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.

* If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person.

Why do you not take insurance?

At the Therapy Ranch, we want you to have full freedom and choice for your healing process. The benefits of out-pocket services is you will have full freedom to choose when you would like your sessions, how often and what type of therapy you are seeking. In addition, your records will not be shared with a third party unless under rare special circumstance in which we will discuss.

What should I wear for equine-assisted psychotherapy?

Horses are magnificent animals but they are also large. Staff members will discuss rules prior to session to ensure safety. Please remember this a natural outdoor environment. No high heels allowed due to safety. We highly recommend boots such as rain boots or cowboy boots. You may wear sneakers but please keep in mind there is risk of getting dirty due to natural environment. We highly encourage comfortable clothing so that you may enjoy your time out on the pasture.

Should I wear bug spray or sunblock for outdoor sessions?

Yes! We highly recommend application of bug spray (if not allergic or sensitive) and sunblock. This is a natural outdoor environment therefore there are insects on premise.
