A note on insurance: The Therapy Ranch is not an in-network provider. All sessions are out-of-pocket. We can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement — a detailed invoice with diagnosis codes, session dates, and provider info. We recommend calling your insurer first to ask what out-of-network mental health benefits you carry.

Your session supports more than healing.
Every session helps fund the care, feeding, and well-being of our rescue horses  the very animals who make this work possible.

Before You Begin

Your Questions,
Answered

We want you to feel informed and at ease before your first session. Here's what families and clients ask us most.

Do you accept insurance? The Therapy Ranch is not an in-network provider. All sessions are self-pay. If you'd like to seek reimbursement, we can provide a superbill — a detailed invoice that includes the session date, diagnosis code, amount paid, and provider information. Reimbursement is not guaranteed, so we encourage you to contact your insurance company beforehand and ask: What are my mental health benefits? How much does my plan pay for out-of-network providers? Are there limitations on the types of therapy covered (equine-assisted, in-person, telehealth)?

Why do you not take insurance? We want you to have full freedom and choice in your healing process. By remaining out-of-network, you can choose when to schedule sessions, how often you come, and what type of therapy you pursue — without insurance dictating your care. Your records also remain private and are not shared with a third party, except in the rare legal circumstances that require it.

What should I wear to equine-psychotherapy session? Horses are magnificent and large! Your safety is our first priority, so please keep these in mind: No high heels or flats, closed-toe shoes are required for safety. Boots are ideal, cowboy boots or rubber rain boots offer the best protection. Sneakers are okay but be prepared, this is a natural outdoor environment and things can get muddy or dirty. Comfortable clothing is encouraged so you can move freely in the pasture. Staff will walk through safety guidelines with you before every session begins.

Should I apply bug spray or sunscreen before a outdoor session? Yes! We highly recommend both especially during warmer months. This is a working ranch in a natural outdoor setting, so insects are part of the environment. Apply bug spray (if you're not allergic or sensitive) and sunblock before arriving so you're protected and comfortable for the full session.

Is what I share in sessions kept private? Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the counseling relationship. You will receive a copy of our Confidential Disclosure Agreement, and everything you discuss in session remains private under Informed Consent law. If you'd like your counselor to share information with a third party such as your doctor, attorney, or school, a written permission from you is required by law before anything can be released. Exceptions required by Texas law: Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of a child, adult, or elder must be reported to Child Protection services and/or law enforcement. If the therapist has reason to believe the client is in serious danger of harming themselves or another person, that information must be disclosed to protect safety.

Cancellation & Rescheduling

Policies

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy
We understand that life happens. All cancellations and rescheduling requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Cancellations or changes made after this window will be charged the full session fee. This policy allows us to honor the time of every family on our schedule and continue providing quality care to all of our clients.

Inclement Weather Policy
Because our services take place in an outdoor ranch environment, session safety is always our first priority. Appointments may be canceled by The Therapy Ranch due to inclement weather conditions including heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, or snow. In the event of a weather cancellation, you will never be charged  and we will work with you promptly to reschedule your session.
